Spiritual testament

Prayer written by Laura a few days before her death

Lord God,

I thank you for the beautiful gifts you have given me in these almost twenty-four years of life: I thank you first of all for the life you have given me and which I love; I thank you because you made yourself known to me and you are my father, a faithful father who does not abandon me; I thank you for the family where I live where your love is breathed, and finally I thank you because through the good of my boyfriend you make me feel how much you love me.
Lord, in my short existence I have understood that life is a hard journey, strewn with difficulties, but that you do nothing but the good of man and I have also learned that the apparently most critical situations, the loss of a leg, two long and heavy chemotherapy, momentary hair loss…, tough talks with doctors, if lived with a spirit of trust, can turn into moments of true grace, animated by that freedom and that security of one who is no longer afraid because he has put all his trust in you.
It is so Lord that you have come to meet me and have helped me for two years now to live with precarious health; that you have refined the love between me and my fiancé in a melting pot of physical and spiritual suffering… and you continue to give me, day after day, the necessary sustenance and, in the best moments, the hope and the will to fight and to dream of things good for my life and that of others.
Please, Lord, help me smile every day at the life that is given to me, teach me to know how to detach myself more and more, to welcome with love and delicacy the gift of others who are the reflection of your presence. Lord increase my faith, strengthen it, because without your support everything is so difficult; keep my serenity and my natural optimism; help me Lord to embody more and more every day of my life my call and your will, but above all Lord let my eyes always remain drawn to what really matters, and that is the certainty of the Kingdom, of eternity together with you, compared to which all that is earthly is ephemeral and of little account.
Give serenity and peace, Lord, to those who love me, especially to my boyfriend, to those I don't love enough, to those who suffer in sickness and in spirit, to those who are dedicated to your service in the Church as ministers and baptized, to those looking for you, to those who haven't met you yet.

Amen.
