“The greatest gift you can give
to the Church and to the world is holiness".
Virgin of Luján, Mother of the poor and humble, of those who suffer and hope: You who have chosen this place, in the silent immensity of the Argentine pampas, to listen to our pleas, calm our hearts and speak to us of your Son: "the Savior of yesterday, today and forever."
This simple place is the spiritual heart of our people.
Today we come to you, a small group of disciples, apostles and witnesses of your Son, gathered in these days in the International Forum of Catholic Action.
You have always inspired the great undertakings of the Argentine Catholic Action and with you unforgettable militants and leaders of this providential apostolic association of the Church have grown and matured.
Today we come from far and near. We are different faces and different cultures, with a different language, but we understand each other in the same Word of your Son who says to each one "Here is your Mother" and so we feel you, Mary, as our Mother and Lady. We only ask that you look at us and listen to us.
We have many things to tell you, many sorrows to tell you, many graces to ask you. For us, for our countries, for our local Churches. But we lack time and we lack words. It is enough for us to have come this far and look at you and know that you look at us and change us.
We are young people and adults, men and women who wish to live the Church in the heart of the world, as Your Son asks of us. Committed to the hour and time in which we live, we want to live with serene, strong and humble fidelity, united with our Pastors - Bishops and priests - with the religious and with all the lay faithful in the communion of the missionary Church. We are marked by the fire of the Holy Spirit and sent again by your Son to announce to all people the Good News of the Kingdom: the love of the Father.
We have penetrated the world in which we live with faith and have committed ourselves to creating, from the heart of the Church, communion, a dialogue and a path of salvation. We feel the challenges of this century that is ending and the hopes that the new one that is approaching offers us.
Virgin of Luján, Mother of Jesus and our Mother: today we place in your heart our anxieties and our hopes, our pains and our joys. We want to offer you our poverty, our prayer, our joy, our hope, our love for the Church inserted in the world as a universal sacrament of salvation.
You know well what we need: a great contemplative spirit to understand the poverty of men and the pain of peoples, a great willingness to welcome the Word of God and put it into practice, a serene fortitude to embrace the cross of your Son and a capacity full of joy in commitment to the service of our brothers. We want to love the Church intensely and live in profound communion with our Pastors. May we be prayerful and missionaries. May we know how to welcome the Word of God and contemplate it, put it into practice and communicate it with the fire of the Spirit.
Holy Mary, help us to be faithful to our hour. It is a “dramatic and magnificent” hour, full of challenges and hopes. There is a need for lay faithful who live the sanctity of their Baptism and the apostolic commitment of Confirmation, who live the Paschal mystery with daily simplicity, who are not afraid of the cross or martyrdom.
May they only live with the joy of holiness in the missionary communion of the Church. Thank you, O Mother and Lady of Luján, for having received us today in your home, for having looked at us and listened to us, for having spoken to us and strengthened us, for having taught us to be the Church.
Now we return serene and strong, full of joy and hope. Let us return to our homes, to our countries, to our local Churches, with the certainty that these words of your Son give us: "Behold your Mother" and we carry in our hearts the joy of repeating with you to Jesus Christ - that of yesterday, of today, and always – these words of yours “I am the servant of the Lord, let it be done in me according to Your Word”.
And now we return home bringing with us your presence as a Mother who tells us "Do whatever he tells you".
So we commit ourselves and so be it. Amen. Alleluia.
“The greatest gift you can give
to the Church and to the world is holiness".
