During the persecution in Mexico of which we have spoken in connection with the holy Mexican martyrs (cf. p. 37 of this volume), among the many martyrs, some were recognized as blessed.
Among them, we draw a brief profile of some lay people, starting with Anacleto González Flores, also known as "the Gandhi of the Cristero revolution", killed with his martyred Catholic Action companions in 1927, José Dionisio Luis Padilla Gómez, Jorge Ramón Vargas González , Ramón Vigente Vargas González and in 1928 Miguel Gómez Loza and Luis Magana Servín.
LUIS MAGANA SERVÍN
Lay, married, he is an active member of the Catholic Association of Mexican Youth (Acjm) and of the archconfraternity of the nocturnal adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, in the parish of Arandas.
On February 9, 1928, a group of Federal Army soldiers occupied the town of Arandas. It was immediately ordered to arrest Catholics sympathetic to the active resistance against the government, including Luis. The soldiers look for him at home, but cannot find him because he is hidden, so they arrest his younger brother.
Upon learning of the fact, Luis appears before the general, asking for his brother's freedom in exchange for his own.
He was martyred in Guadalajara on February 9, 1928, to the cry of «Long live Christ the King and Saint Mary of Guadalupe!».
