«Let's not say that today it is more difficult;
it's different. Let's learn rather
by the saints who have gone before us
and they faced the difficulties
characteristic of their era".
He was born in San Marco la Catola (Fg) on 14 December 1914 into a family of ten children. In 1944 she was awarded a degree in pedagogy and after five years she also acquired a degree in literature.
He dedicates his entire working life to teaching, from elementary to high school, first in various towns in the province of Foggia, then in Lucera at the "Vittorio Emanuele II Technical-Commercial and Surveyor Institute", where for many years he also holds the position of vice-principal. Subsequently, from 1971 and until her retirement, he continued to teach at Cittadella in the Veneto region, maintaining close relationships with many of her former students, who still retain an extraordinary esteem for her today.
Ida offered another part of her life, no less important, to the Church and to the Mission, so much so that in 1980 she obtained a third degree in Religious Sciences. Consecrated among the Missionaries of the Kingship of Armida Barelli and Father Gemelli, she is a woman of spirit and prayer, always available, always active, who above all manages to communicate with particular immediacy and effectiveness.
From the 50s until 1969, the year of the unification of the four branches of Catholic Action (Men, Women, Men's Youth and Women's Youth), the "Miss Sica", as everyone calls her, gave her life to the apostolate in a specific field, that of Catholic Action, assuming the difficult but noble task of Diocesan President of the Female Youth of the Diocese of Lucera. Tireless in her periodic and systematic visits to the Parish Associations of Female Youth, then very flourishing, the President offers all her enthusiasm and her apostolic office and above all, establishes with her "girls" a relationship of true and sincere friendship that has remained unchanged in time.
Omnipresent animator in the various pastoral proposals of the Diocesan Ordinary of the time, with the usual discretion and in silence, Miss Sica truly lives the triple motto of the Female Youth: "Eucharist, Apostolate, Heroism". She too in Cittadella continues her active commitment in Catholic Action holding the position of Diocesan President.
Returning to Lucera, she takes an interest in the liturgical animation of her parish of Christ the King and in the animation of the parish Catholic Action and is extraordinary minister of the Eucharist.
Finally, Ida dedicated the last twenty years of her life to the Secular Franciscan Order, initially in the Fraternity of the Pietà of Lucera and then, at the regional level, as President from 1996 to 2002.
Despite the venerable age of over 88, he worked until the end of his days, which suddenly arrived on August 1, 2003; that day it turns out that a long and painful illness has accompanied her in recent years and that she lived it with courage and discretion, strong in her faith in the Lord, keeping it hidden from everyone, even from her family, and continuing to spread serenity and hope.
It can be said of her that she is a laywoman who has left the mark of her Christian presence wherever she has gone.
