BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES AND PROCEDURE OF THE CAUSE

Camilla Ligas

March 16, 1908, Capua - October 12, 1998, Capua

A strong and noble woman, lovable and severe, discreet and generous, dynamic in all her manifestations, a constant point of reference for every initiative.
Elementary school teacher, diocesan president of the Girls' Youth, secretary, and cashier for many years.
His love for the apostolate and for his church was indelible: we like to recall two episodes of his long life, filled with joys and sorrows.
On September 9, 1943, he extracted his mother's battered body from the rubble of the bombing and accompanied her to her burial with heroic courage.
The joyful memory of the attribute conferred on her by Archbishop Baccarini, during the diocesan competitions of Catholic Action, defined her in public as "my Alpine star".
We entrust the stages of his profound and intense journey of faith to the words of his diary:
I have always aspired to a life of apostolate in the world, to spread the Gospel of Christ. I was won over by Vittoria Titomallio, but since consecration in the Secular Missionary Institute of the Regality seemed too arduous a choice for me, a miserable creature, it took me a full three years to say yes to my vocation. I began by attending a retreat in Assisi, where I met Armida Barelli and Father Gemelli. Thus I began my life in the Opera della Regality. I was the only one in Capua and in the Diocese, then gradually we increased, also because, being then diocesan president of the Young Women's Society, I had more opportunities to recruit new sisters. I made my profession in Grottaferrata, consecrating myself entirely to the Lord. My vocation has sustained me in everything, especially in the saddest hours of my life.
Yes, a life according to the Franciscan rule of self-denial; a "doing" without excluding "being."
Camilla was a divine plan and even death came to her as “sister death”.
Diocesan Catholic Action, grateful to the Lord for having raised up throughout its history this luminous figure of lay sanctity, whom it remembers as a precious member of the association's life, a shining example of profound humility, embarks with confidence and hope on the journey of the new three-year period.
