«Let's not say that today it is more difficult;
it's different. Let's learn rather
by the saints who have gone before us
and they faced the difficulties
characteristic of their era".
The beatification of Teresio Olivelli took place on 3 February 2018 in Vigevano. The Church thus indicates him as a model to be imitated, as a person who, in the supreme sacrifice in a German concentration camp, fulfilled the meaning of his own existence, sacrificing himself for others. Active participation in the life of Catholic Action and Fuci did not prevent him from adhering to fascism, to the point of volunteering to fight on the Russian front, where, however, he was able to personally witness the material, moral and human devastation caused by the crazy fascist policy. Back in his homeland, Olivelli joined the Resistance, becoming a "rebel out of love", up to the complete offer of himself in the infamous Hersbruck concentration camp.
The book reconstructs correctly and completely the biographical story of the man who Don Mazzolari defined as "the most Christian spirit of our second Risorgimento".
